Canada Housing Authority to Remove Asbestos from Homes
A Housing Authority in Canada plans for asbestos removal in dozens of homes.
Canada (MesotheliomaCancerNews.Com) – A Canadian Housing Authority is planning to remove asbestos from numerous homes. As reported by CBC on Yahoo! Canada News, The Cape Benton Island Housing Authority will replace roofs and other materials of 64 homes in the spring in two neighborhoods. Area resident Gail Collete is quoted in the report as stating of the plans, “It’s about time they get it outta here because, like I said, it’s been a while and I hope they get the right equipment in here and get rid of it.”
Asbestos exposure can lead to mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases, when fibers are inhaled.
As noted in the report, the Nova Scotia Department of Community Services, an oversight agency of public housing was fined $10,000 for failing to act promptly for the protection of tenants and workers last week. Joan McKeough who directs the housing authority is quoted in the report as stating, “Our expectation is we probably will have work begin by mid-April, and the exact timing of how long that work will take we won’t know with certainty until we receive tender submissions.”
