Asbestos Con Artist Sought by Government Agency

The EPA is searching for a woman convicted of administering fake certificates for asbestos removal training.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), is on the lookout for a woman that has been deemed an “environmental fugitive.” As reported by the Boston Herald, New England woman, Albania Deleon has been placed on the EPA most wanted list after failing to show at her sentencing hearing last month. Deleon was convicted of fraud last year for selling fake certificates for asbestos removal training to illegal immigrants.

As noted in the report, 39 year-old Deleon ran a now defunct Environmental Compliance Training company as well as a temporary employment agency in which she paid or enlisted hundreds of uncertified illegal immigrants to do dangerous asbestos removal work. For her conviction she could reportedly receive a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

Asbestos removal workers must be legally certified and file with the state Division of Occupational Safety, as further noted in the Boston Herald report.

Asbestos can cause mesothelioma lung cancer, and other serious health conditions.
