Deceased Woman Wins Asbestos Case

An Australian woman wins asbestos lawsuit after her death.

Mesothelioma Cancer News – An Australian woman has won a posthumous lawsuit following her death. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Margaret Dawson was awarded 550,000 Australian dollars ($400,000) for a case involving her claim that she developed mesothelioma cancer as a result of washing clothes that contained asbestos fibers or dust for 20 years.

As noted by the AP, the 64 year-old’s father and husband both reportedly worked for what at one time had been the largest maker of asbestos in Australia, James Hardie Industries. The award, which was announced by The Asbestos Diseases Foundation of Australia, included thousands for the care of her grandchildren, and is said to help set a precedent for others who may be looking to receive compensation for the care of others.

As further noted by the AP, Dawson passed away from mesothelioma cancer eight months ago.
