Mississippi Jury Rules Against Asbestos Victim
A jury rules against a Mississippi man in an asbestos claim.
Mesothelioma Cancer News (Mississippi) – A jury in a Mississippi court has denied a multimillion-dollar claim of a man alleging he was affected by asbestos contamination. As reported by the Insurance Journal, the Claiborne County jury did not award the $4.5 million in damages sought by Eugene Westrope, 73, against three different companies blamed for his silicosis, a disease of the lungs. Westrope had reportedly filed suit against a total of 18 companies initially, but settled with 15 prior to going to trial.
Westrope was stated to have contracted silicosis through contact with the companies’ asbestos-containing cleaning products between 1964 and 1995. The three companies the 73 year-old brought the lawsuit against were Clemco Industries Corp., Precision Packaging, and Lone Star Industries Inc. The jury found that the three were not responsible for damages incurred by Westrope.
