University Building Evacuated Due to Asbestos Scare
A Western Washington University campus building has been evacuated due to an asbestos scare.
Mesothelioma Cancer News (Bellingham, Washington) – Classes in the Humanities Building at Western Washington University were cancelled Monday due an evacuation. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the possible release of asbestos during renovation work led to an evacuation of the building due to concerns about contamination.
As noted in the report, Gayle Shipley with the school’s Environmental Health and Safety department reportedly stated a contractor removed a piece of ceiling that contained asbestos while working early in the day. Although there were said to have not been any injuries as a result, an evacuation was ordered for the safety of students and staff.
As further noted by the AP, the situation is now being evaluated by contractors and consultants.
