Britain Space Agency Boss Died of Asbestos Exposure
Derrick Gould has been found to have died from mesothelioma.
Mesothelioma Cancer News (UK) — A post-mortem on former Britain space agency head Derrick Gould has revealed that he died from asbestos exposure. As reported by the North-West Evening Mail, an inquest into the death of Gould, who passed away June 22, found the he had advanced mesothelioma, an asbestos related disease, at the time of his death.
As noted in the report, Gould worked as a laborer for Vickers prior to becoming space projects head at the British National Space Centre. Coroner for South and East Cumbria, Mr. Ian Smith is quoted as stating of his possible exposure to asbestos contamination during his time at Vickers, “Of some interest is that he worked as a holiday job at the shipyard for three months… I have no doubt that in the course of that he would have been exposed to asbestos.” Smith further stated, “I am far more than 50 per cent satisfied that the cause of death is industrial disease.”
