Fort Myers, Florida (Mesothelioma Cancer News) – Workers continue to find asbestos at the site of an overpass construction project. As reported by The News-Press, the findings at Summerlin Road and College Parkway continue to delay completion of the project pending an investigation.
As noted in the report, officials are investigating to see the amount of asbestos present and where it may have originated. Scott Gilbertson, Lee County’s transportation director, is quoted in the report as stating of being unable to provide a timeline for re-starting construction for the $25.2 million Summerlin Road widening project, which has reportedly been on hold for six weeks, “They have to dig through and see what they see and make a determination.”
The DEP has reportedly stated that the asbestos has not posed a public health risk because it is not airborne.
