Richmond, Virginia (Mesothelioma Cancer News) – A bill that would have limited liability of a Fortune 500 company in asbestos claims has been killed by a Virginia Senate committee. As reported by The Washington Post, the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee voted in opposition of the bill that would help shield Crown Cork and Seal from related lawsuits.
As noted in the report, Crown Cork has been named in over 300,000 claims since purchasing the company from Mundet, which had involvement in asbestos insulation years prior. William Gallagher, general counsel for Crown Cork, is quoted by the Washington Post as stating to senators on Monday, “Crown would have no way of knowing that 10 years in the future the greatest mass tort in the history of the world would rear its head.”
