Davie, Fl. (Mesothelioma Cancer News) – Controversy surrounding a major land deal in Davie has escalated. As reported by the Sun Sentinel, some residents have become concerned after members of the Town Council revealed they were unaware of the presence of asbestos pipes on the land recently purchased for $12.5 million.
As noted in the report, residents now have safety concerns over plans to build a park and potentially a water plant as well, due to the town possibly deciding to leave the pipes where they are.
Councilwoman Susan Starkey who was not in favor of the land deal, and purportedly suggested environmental testing be conducted prior but to no avail, is quoted in the report as stating of the matter, “There are a lot of questions that still need to be answered.”
Councilman Michael Crowley is further quoted as stating about not being informed of the asbestos pipes before the land deal was made, “Something at that level of importance should have been disclosed to us. You can’t assume the council is not interested in knowing that.”
