Montreal (Mesothelioma Cancer News) – A new group is reportedly lobbying for preserving the asbestos industry in Canada. As reported by CBC, the group, Partners for the Use of Asbestos, comprised of fifteen organizations, is stated to promote asbestos use amid mounting pressures on the Canadian government for closing down current asbestos mines.

NDP MP Pat Martin is quoted in the report as stating the matter, “The asbestos cartel is like the tobacco industry’s evil twin, because they both relied for decades on phony science, aggressive lobbying and out and out lies about the danger of the product… But in this case, it’s all paid for by the Canadian taxpayer.”

Asbestos use is linked to serious health conditions such as meothelioma lung cancer, and has been banned in most developed nations.
