Breast cancer chances have been found to increase with only a moderate consumption of alcoholic beverages. This may be tied to genes that code for an enzyme involved in alcohol metabolism. This enzyme begins the breakdown of alcohol into a substance which was found to be cancer causing in animal trials. In a cancer report by the American Institute for Cancer Research it was concluded “The evidence on cancer justifies a recommendation not to drink alcoholic drinks.”
