Transportation an issue for many cancer patients

Sioux City, Iowa – Many cancer patients find themselves faced with transportation challenges when seeking treatment. As reported by KTIV News, some organizations are seeking assistance in helping provide transportation for getting patients to their medical appointments.
June E. Nylen Cancer Center patient navigator Brenda Winkler is quoted in the report as stating of the issue, “It’s one of my greatest frustrations. We get a lot of requests for transportation and unfortunately because of the location of the individual, we can’t always accommodate.”
Marjorie Jarvill, the only remaining driver for the center’s transportation program, is further quoted as stating of the need for drivers for patients, “Some of them, when they have chemotherapy, they have an emotional or even a physical reaction to the medication that makes it unsafe for them to drive.”
