A genetic marker for predicting the risk of developing ovarian cancer has been discovered by Scientists at Yale University. Researchers proved that a variant of what is known as the KRAS oncogene was present in 25% of all ovarian cancer patients. Further studies showed this variant was also found in 61% of ovarian cancer patients who had a family history of breast or ovarian cancer. It is believed that this research will aid in earlier ovarian cancer detection by alerting women at risk.
