UK – Two men in Northern Ireland have started a support group for sufferers of asbestos related diseases. As reported by the Belfast Telegraph, Arthur Rafferty and Brendan Whyte created ASNI (Asbestos Support Northern Ireland) in response to limited information being found by Rafferty following his diagnosis of asbestosis.
Rafferty is quoted in the report as stating of the need for the group, “Throughout England, Scotland and Wales there are a number of asbestos support groups, yet in Northern Ireland there are none… We hope to raise awareness, offer support and act as a life line to those who feel isolated as they have no one to turn to.”
As noted in the report, ASNI has also begun campaigning to raise funds for mesothelioma research, and expanding support services for disease sufferers.
