Although still low, the rate of Rectal Cancer in people under 40 has risen nearly 4% per year over the past twenty years. Risk factors are the same as those for Colon Cancer, however there has been no rise in Colon Cancer diagnosis. These risk factors include family history, obesity, smoking and heavy alcohol use. Medical researchers have no explanation for the increase in Rectal Cancer over Colon Cancer cases. Rectal Cancer is not common and only affects two out of every million people.
