Pennsylvania Mesothelioma: Golf event planned. Advance mesothelioma research

08/25/2010 // York, Pennsylvania, USA // Mesothelioma News Now! // Pennsylvania Mesothelioma Reporter
In remembrance of their loved one who passed from asbestos-related mesothelioma cancer, the family of Jeff Crist is hosting the Jeff Crist Memorial Golf Outing at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York, Pennsylvania on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010.
All of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the International Mesothelioma Program to raise funds for advanced research into the fatal disease, treatment and care of mesothelioma victims.
Crist (1949-2009) lived an active lifestyle, having been a faithful member of his church and an avid golfer. He lived only five months after his diagnosis of malignant pleural mesothelioma. In memorial of their loved one, the family organized the golf event with the hope that “a cure will be found in the near future so that other families do not have to endure such a tragedy.”
Mesothelioma is the most rare form of cancer and is extremely aggressive to the victim. It is primarily caused by exposure to airborne asbestos fibers. Due to its extremely long latency period, symptoms of mesothelioma do not usually appear until up to 50 years after the first exposure to asbestos. Currently there is no known cure and only palliative treatments to ease the pain and suffering.
The International Mesothelioma Program is the largest program of its kind in the world, focusing on clinical research and support for mesothelioma victims and their families.
