08/30/2010 // Virginia Beach, VA, USA // Get Cancer Answers // Canswer Answers
The Mesothelioma Cancer causing substance, asbestos, has been found in sealants applied to the walls at seven Virginia Beach built between 1956 and 1974. Air samples collected showed asbestos levels below the regulatory limits set by OSHA and EPA so nothing is being done to remove the asbestos at this time. School is expected to start as planned despite the risks. Staffs at the schools have been instructed not to drill or nail into the walls in fear that asbestos may be released.
