08/27/2010 // LOS ANGELES, CA, USA // Get Cancer Answers // Cancer Answers
Melanoma causes the majority of skin cancer deaths annually and has not held much hope to patients in the final stages, but now an experimental drug called PLX 4032 is having remarkable results. Using the new drug, Shirley Chance who was given a year to live went into remission and is doing well over a year later. Researchers say about half of melanoma patients carry a gene that promotes cancer growth and the new drug disrupts that gene which allows the tumors to shrink.
