The owner of several apartment complexes is in hot water and facing a fine of $165,400 after the Department of Labor and Industries found him to be in violation of asbestos regulations.

Longwell Company president and CEO Stanley Xu was discovered to have been using workers untrained for asbestos abatement and was fined for being “willfully negligent and indifferent” to regulations that clearly outline the safe handling, removal and storage of asbestos.

Asbestos exposure has been conclusively shown to be the cause of many serious diseases that include lung cancer, mesothelioma and asbestosis.

Longwell Company owns seven apartment complexes in Washington, and four of those complexes have been named in asbestos removal violations. Xu is not stranger to violations; the most recent being the third levied against the company in less than two years.
