Diabetics taking Metformin may have a reduced risk of developing lung cancer. A British study found that diabetics taking Metformin had a 40% lower risk of cancer than those taking other diabetes drugs. Now trials on humans for lung, breast and prostate cancer are being organized for cancer reduction studies using the drug. In 2008 there were 40 million prescriptions for Metformin in the US. This number will grow exponentially if found to help prevent cancers in addition to treating Diabetes.
